Hi guys, I’m following up this week with more on my fitness journey and the book I’ve been using as my guide, Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion. Learn more about the book and how to purchase here.
My goal has been to slim down slightly and increase my overall health. One guideline from the book that I’ve introduced into my routine is intermittent fasting. The point is to fast for 12-16 hours and feed for the remaining 8-12, so I usually plan on fasting from around 10pm until 2pm the next day. The book delves into the benefits tied to intermittent fasting, on top of the fact that it helps reach weight loss goals because you’re essentially cutting the calories of an entire meal. Here’s one quote from the book:
“Intermittent fasting really shines when it comes to improving the hormones that directly affect your hunger, blood sugar, and metabolism. One is insulin. IF combats insulin resistance, meaning that it helps your body use insulin more normally, thereby lowering your diabetes risk and boosting your metabolism.”
I’ve personally gained a few extra benefits from intermittent fasting. One is that I’ve become much more hydrated. I constantly struggle with dehydration, often getting headaches and nausea. They say that a lot of times your hunger pangs could actually be from thirst, and intermittent fasting has helped me learn to reach for a drink instead of a snack. When it’s 12pm and I still can’t eat for two more hours, I fill my belly with liquid. It’s so nice to finally turn around my hydration problems and not have my life interrupted by headaches.
The point of the book is to make dieting easy and eliminate 90% of the reasons for resistance. The author is a fitness expert and nutritionist and he debunks the myths underlying traditional dieting, offering a simple, highly effective weight loss program. I’ve enjoyed reading it and have gained some great motivation.
I’ll share more on my personal journey in my next post in a few days. This time I’m also going to introduce you to the author, Joel Marion, with a few interview questions:
What inspired you to write the book?
After authoring 6 best selling books it was glaringly obvious there were 2 huge misconceptions about dieting that needed to be exposed. The first is that you can’t eat late at night or before bed, which science now shows is NOT true. And second, you can’t eat large portions that satisfy your natural instinct. This book solves both these problems by providing an evidence-based, enjoyable approach to dieting that can be used by any person to quickly achieve their weight loss goals.
You’re a six-time best selling author, what is different about this book compared to your others?
Although many of the concepts are similar, the biggest difference is that you don’t have to deprive yourself of your favorite foods. You don’t have to deal with the burden of eating every few hours. And you don’t have to skip the carbs at dinnertime or avoid eating before bed.
How difficult is the Always Eat After 7 PM plan to follow?
It’s not. And that’s exactly why I wrote the book. While any diet is never truly easy, it can be more enjoyable and much easier to adhere to when you understand how Always Eat After 7pm works because it caters to our bodies natural instincts.
He’s an inspiring guy.
