Black + White Striped Nails + Giveaway

Uncategorized June 5, 2015

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are of course my own 🙂 #ArtisanFlavors #CollectiveBias

The other day I watched these videos about Haagen-Dazs’ new Artisan ice cream collections where they collabed with different artisans around the country to create ice cream flavors. There are six videos (and six new flavors) and I watched every single one hehe. The hipster in me loves this kind of artisanal indie stuff. So far I’ve already tried three of the flavors (oops!) and the only reason I haven’t tried them all is because my Walmart only had three.

With hubby gone so often I sometimes feel bad taking time for myself. I just feel like since he is off working hard and doing good, I feel like I need to do as much the same. But still…breaks are still necessary, right? So one afternoon I decided to put aside my to-do list and just do whatever I wanted. One of the Artisan flavors is Tres Leches Brigadeiro. From the video I watched, I gathered that brigadeiros are Brazilian truffle-like chocolate confections eaten at pretty much any celebration. I was intrigued that there was such a popular treat that I didn’t know about so I found a recipe and tried making them. Turns out they are super easy and yummy! But I ate way too much way too fast per usual haha. After some kitchen clean up I rewarded myself by experimenting with my nails and indulged in some of the brigadeiro ice cream to compare it with what I had made. I think I did not-too-bad a job: both with the brigadeiros and the nails. What do you think? I’m usually pretty conservative with my nails so I loved how these stripes turned out: simple but still fun. I put together a quick pictorial below.

Guys make sure you check out Haagen-Dazs on their social media: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram. And if you get a chance to try the three flavors I haven’t yet, let me know! (I haven’t been able to try the Applewood Smoked Caramel Almond, Chocolate Caramelized Oat or Spiced Pecan Turtle yet!)

Black & White Striped Nails

Need:

  • White polish (I used OPI Alpine Snow)
  • Black polish (I used Essie licorice)
  • top coat
  • nail striping tape
  • scissors

1. Paint nails with white polish. Let dry completely (I waited around 45 minutes).
2. Place four pieces of striping tape evenly spaced on nail. Use longer strips so that they will be easy to peel off later, and press the tape down firmly, especially into the edges of your nails.

3. Cover in black polish. Let dry completely, another 30-60 minutes. Then carefully peel off tape strips.
4. If it doesn’t seem totally dry let it sit a bit more before you put on your top coat. And voila!

Love how that nail polish turned out! I'm trying so hard not to eat any ice cream (diet problems, you know?), but I have a weakness when it comes to Strawberry or Maple Walnut flavours. It's impossible to say no to (esp. if you add in a waffle cone).
